Port Blair, Sept 09: The ICAR- Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in association with Division of Animal Science, ICAR- CIARI, Port Blair organized one awareness-cum-critical inputs distribution programme on Pig at the AICRP on Pig unit of CIARI, Port Blair, under TDC- National Innovation in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) Project of Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair encouraged the farmers to adopt pig farming for income generation and nutritional security and also briefed about the scope and importance of pig farming.
Dr. Debasis Bhattacharya, HoD I/c and PI, AICRP on Pig highlighted the scientific package and practices of pig farming. Dr. Zachariah George, Co-PI of NICRA, Dr. Jai Sunder Principal Scientist and Dr. Arun Dey, Scientist, ASD-CIARI emphasized about the various climate resilient technologies promoted by ICAR-CIARI, KVK, Port Blair.
In this Programme Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair distributed 15 numbers of piglets (Andaman local breed , 5- Male, 5- Female & 5 – castrated Male ) to the farmers of TDC- NICRA adopted villages (Port Mout, Creekabad and lal pahad) under Chouldari Gram Panchayat.
