U.S. Consul General Jennifer McIntyre will award a U.S. Government grant of $50,000 to the Oriental Research Institute (ORI), Mysore on January 31, 2012.
The grant will be used for the renovation and acquisition of suitable storage furniture for the ORI’s priceless collection of palm leaf manuscripts. The ORI will consult with The Indian National Trust for Arts and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) Bangalore Chapter on the renovation work. INTACH is a national level NGO dedicated to the conservation and preservation of ‘India’s natural, cultural, living, tangible and intangible’ heritage.
This is the first visit of Ms. McIntyre to Mysore after arriving in Chennai in August 2011. Ms. McIntyre’s prior foreign assignments include tours as Vice Consul and General Services Officer in Baku, Azerbaijan; as Vice Consul and Management Officer in Adana, Turkey; as Management Officer in Phnom Penh, Cambodia; as Deputy Chief of Mission in Asmara, Eritrea; and most recently as Deputy Management Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan.
