Port Blair, Aug 24: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma today met the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman, Mr. Suneel Anchipaka and highlighted the problems being faced by people of Shaheed Dweep, Swaraj Dweep, Rangat and Long Islands, in absence of a connecting ferry (Line Boat) for all these Islands.
He pointed out that before lockdowns a ferry used to connect all these Islands and hence previously people from these Islands were able to travel from one Island to the other, very fast and with minimum expenditure.
The MP pointed out that now in absence of the said ferry service people of remote Islands have to come to Port Blair first, halt at Port Blair for tickets and then travel to other Islands, which cost more than Rs.2000 to Rs. 2500 per head.
The Member of Parliament demanded to restart the Ferry Services connecting Shaheed Dweep, Swaraj Dweep, Rangat and Long Island at the earliest.
Mr. Sharma also demanded two ferry vessels tomorrow for Shaheed Dweep as nearly 100 students are waiting to reach Port Blair for their exams and sailing of one boat won’t be sufficient for nearly 100 students. The Deputy Commissioner assured to provide these ferry vessels during the meeting.
