Port Blair, Aug 12: Mr. Paritosh Kumar Haldar, ex-member, A & N Pradesh Council raised concerns over alleged poor workmanship, slow progress in construction of National Highway in A&N Islands.
In a press release, Mr. Paritosh Kumar Haldar today alleged that NH4 is not being constructed as per the norms and specification of Nation Highways.
“Time and again the PRIs and the General public have made a number of complaints and agitations have already been staged but no action has been initiated yet. I have written two letters to the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi on this issue and I am happy to communicate that I got the reply too, from the National Highway Authorities,” Mr. Halder added.
He added that NHIDCL authorities have informed him that NHIDCL is fully committed to ensure the quality of work and work will be done as per specification, he said.
“No effort is being made to make the road straight. They are doing all these activities on the existing road alignments. Secondly, workmanship is very poor, which can be seen in drainage & foot path work in NH4. Sometimes, 6mm rods have been used in the constructional work of drainage. Whereas, APWD has totally banned 6 mm rods, which cannot be used in any constructional work,” he pointed out.
On behalf of all the islanders, the Mr. Halder demanded that highway specifications should be followed in construction of NH4 very strictly.
He also added that many people have demanded a Judicial probe on the ongoing NH4 work, under a senior sitting High Court Judge.
