Port Blair, Aug 05: The Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) was introduced with the target of “Housing for All” by the year 2022. The main aim of the scheme is to provide the pucca house with some of the basic amenities. This scheme is meant for people who do not own a house and people who live in kutcha houses or houses which are severely damaged. The unit assistance for construction of the house has been increased from Rs. 70,000 to Rs. 1.20 Lakh in plains & from 75,000/- to Rs. 1.30 Lakh in hilly states & difficult areas.
In the PMAY-G programme implementation & monitoring is carried out through an end to end e-governance model using Awaas Soft &Awas App.
In Andaman & Nicobar Islands the scheme is being implemented by the department of RD, PRI, ULBs in mission mode. The target of construction of houses under PMAY-G scheme was 1337 and so far 936 houses are already constructed and 401 houses are under construction.
To expedite the work of construction officials from the RD department (Smti. LalitaTigga, BDO (RD/P) & Smti. P. Aruna, BDO (Prothrapur) ) along with the team had visited Bedonabad&Chidiyatapu village under Bedonabad Gram Panchayat. The team had inspected the site and monitored the construction work. They had also interacted with fifteen beneficiaries of the scheme from these two GPs. While interacting the team from RD had motivated the beneficiaries to complete the construction of their house at the earliest, as the 1st instalment had already been released to all the beneficiaries. The beneficiaries who had received the 1st instalment had assured that the construction work will be initiated and completed very soon.
The Department of Rural Development is working in grassroot level to provide homes to all homeless and economically poor section through the PMAY-G Scheme.
