Port Blair, Jul 26: Mr. Anand Amrit Raj, ex-Up Adhyaksh Zilla Parishad, South Andaman District in a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor has intimated regarding a peaceful protest in front of PHC Tushnabad at 28 July 2021 by villagers of the area.
In his letter to the Lt. Governor, he has pointed out that the Generator Set at Primary Health Centre Tushnabad is under repair since last three years. The nearby Panchayat had requested the DHS many times for providing New Generator Set to PHC Tushnabad but it was not provided.
“Now due to lack of Gen Set, the patients are suffering heavily. During COVID-19 Second Wave the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman had provided Gen-set in a hiring basis from a private firm, which was also taken back one month ago,” he added.
Mr. Anand Amrit Raj added that he has already requested to the Director of Health Services (DHS) on 30 June for providing one new Gen-set before 10 July but there was no response.
He further pointed out that the entire area witnesses frequent power cuts and hence patients suffer a lot due to lack of a generator set at PHC Tushnabad.
“Now the people of the adjacent villages are very upset and they have planned to protest against DHS demanding Gen-set,” he added.
This is worth mentioning here that Andaman Sheekha reported went to meet the Director of Health Services (DHS), Dr. Omkar Singh for a comment on various issues including this, he was made to wait for two days and then the DHS refused to meet.
While the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration is working day and night to improve the health sector in Andaman the DHS is spoiling the image of the Administration. Hence people are forced to plan a protest even during the time of pandemic, which is disappointing.
