Port Blair, July 16: Mr. Mohd. Shabbir Hussain, President, Tourism Association of Andaman & Nicobar, in his letter addressed to the PMO, Mr. Narendra Modi, the Union Finance Minister, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman and the Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs, Mr. Anurag Singh Thakur has requested direction for appropriate relaxation of compounded interests on commercial vehicle loans attached to several banks / financing companies / govt. aided schemes since Covid-19 in the islands for the drivers and unemployed / self- employed community related to the Andaman Tourism sector.
This was a much-needed step seeing the present bad condition of the drivers / tour operators / hoteliers / activity operators etc. related to Andaman tourism. We hope that the government. would award some helping hand in the form of relaxation for the same considering the lack of proper infrastructure in the remote islands.
In continuation and regard of the same the letter has also been addressed to the Governor, RBI (HQ- Mumbai), the Chairman, SBI (HQ- Mumbai), Regional Director, RBI (Kolkata Region), the CGM, SBI (Bengal Circle), the CGM, SBI (Andaman Circle), AGM, SBI (Bengal Circle), AGM, SBI (Andaman Circle) highlighting the need and necessity of the poor daily earners of the Andaman tourism industry who are slowing drowning into the hopeless dawn of the loan debts. The letter also highlights the genuine grievances and plead calls of all the drivers, tour operators and all other tourism stakeholders of Andamans who are over burdened by the seamless closure of tourism activities indirectly pushing the stakeholders to bankruptcy.
In a major note, the same matter has been put up for the official correspondences for Mr. Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Dr. Anish Shah, MD & CEO, Mahindra Group, Mr. Ramesh Iyer, VC & MD, Mr. Vivek Mishra, GRO (HO), Mr. Anand Prabhu, Nodal Officer, NBFC Ombudsman (A&N Islands), MMFSL, copied to Mahindra Finance RO, Port Blair.
Lastly, it has also been copied to the LG, A&N Islands and MP, A&N Islands for their kind information and necessary follow up for the matter.
