Port Blair, July 06: Transport Department is involved in public transport is not only providing bus service to the commuters but also takes continuous effort to minimize diesel consumption and resultant pollution. In order to achieve the same, various measures of reporting & review were put in place like daily monitoring of mileage/ revenue /fuel consumption, daily maintenance, improving driving habits etc. The names of best performing drivers of each unit monthwise are displayed in the Notice boards of respective units and the same has resulted in a healthy competition for betterment of performance. To further motivate the bus drivers, the operation statistics of each unit for the month of June 2021 was compiled and analyzed. The performance of Bus Drivers were evaluated in terms of the fuel savings in three categories of Buses i.e. Long, Medium and Short Chassis Buses.
Shri. G.Sudhakar, Secretary (Transport) alongwith Shri. Aom Dhole, Director (Transport) rewarded the best performing drivers with cash prize and appreciation certificates today i.e. 06.07.2021 at Bus Terminus, Mohanpura. In his address, the Secretary (Transport) exhorted the employees to perform their duties earnestly with dedication and appreciated the work performed by them during the COVID pandemic. All the employees were asked to get fully vaccinated as they have high level of daily contact with the commuters.
The Director (Transport) also congratulated the best performing drivers and motivated all the employees to adopt better driving practices and provide safe travel experiences to the commuters.
The Secretary (Transport) also inspected the facilities provided by the Department for the general commuters like Air conditioned rest room, separate counters for express/local buses, drinking water facility, toilet blocks, Canteen facility etc.
During the visit, physical inspection of the electric buses and charging facility were also under taken besides interacting with the officials regarding the operation, maintenance and features of electric buses.
