Port Blair, Jun 23: The Andaman & Nicobar Administration has issued a circular today directing all teachers to work from home considering the Covid-19 pandemic situation and the lockdown imposed in the North & Middle Andaman and South Andaman districts. This is in the wake of the reopening of schools on 30.06.2021 after the Summer Vacation.
The teachers have been directed to report for duty to the institution concerned through online mode on 30th June 2021 and have been allowed to work from home till the Covid situation subsides and the restrictions are relaxed by the A & N Administration.
The teachers have to undertake classes through online mode while maintaining a record of the same. The teachers who have proceeded to the mainland during the Summer Vacation have been directed to return to Port Blair and submit an undertaking in this regard while reporting for duty.
The DDOs have been directed to consider all teachers complying with the circular to be deemed to have reported for duty and issue Periodic Increment Certificate for the purpose of increment.
The Andaman & Nicobar Teachers’ Association expresses its gratitude to the administration for this decision. Earlier ANTA had requested the Chief Secretary in this regard and considering the prevailing facts and circumstances, the Administration has decided to continue virtual learning as it was followed prior to the Summer Vacation. Allowing the teachers to report for duty through online mode has come as a big relief as the districts have enforced quarantine on entry which otherwise would have been considered as leave by the DDOs concerned as done during the last Summer Vacation. ANTA has sought a clarification in this regard too from the DoPT.
Mr. Y Sajeevan, President of ANTA has requested all teachers of the islands to do their best in teaching their students through virtual mode and other available resources.
