Port Blair, June 06: A & N Police is committed to zero tolerance policy against bootlegging and illicit liquor. To ensure that bootleggers and illicit liquor sellers do not take advantage of Lockdown, a close vigil has been kept over the bootleggers and of late the numerous raids have been conducted in various parts of the South Andaman district.
Though Police resources are over stretched and police is working 24×7 to enforce lockdown to contain and break the chain of Corona virus but there is absolutely no compromise on the issue of bootlegging. Rather, stringent surveillance is being kept over these activities against bootlegging and illicit liquor.
In the month of May, 2021, as many as 42 cases have been registered in South Andaman district. Huge cache of liquor that includes 258 bottles of IMFL and 1702 Kg of Handia were recovered. Criminal case is registered against Bar Owner of Golden Bar, Garacharma for bootlegging and 41 bottles were recovered in the raid. In addition, search operations were carried out in jungle to discover illicit liquor. Resultant 5820 liters of Lehan (fermented wash) was destroyed in jungle search operations. Leaving no stone unturned, as many as 14 deep jungle searches were conducted to keep a check on this illicit trade.
A & N Police is committed to take stern action against bootleggers and illicit liquor. In this context, 56 History sheets were opened against repeated offenders in the month of May, 2021 and strict surveillance has been mounted. 03 persons were also booked under preventive sections of CrPC.
The general public is requested to share information pertaining to any crime or other illegal activities to Police at 100, 112 & 03192-233077. The identity of the informant will be kept secret.
