–Cop writes “Jai Hind” in suicide note —
Port Blair, Jan 27: Yet another suicide by a cop in Andaman and Nicobar Islands has left the entire police force tensed and worried. Khedu Ram, a Head Constable chose Republic Day to committed suicide that too during duty hours inside his office of Quarter Master, Police Line at around 12.00 noon. However the body was found only at 6.00 pm at night.
This is second suicide by cop in last one year and third in last three years. Surprisingly just five months back an Assistant Sub Inspector of police, Mr. N C Dakua, from the same office of Quarter Master had committed suicide and the suicide note left by both the cops indicate heavy work pressures, behind these suicides.
However the police department refuted the claims of heavy work pressure at the office of quarter master. “What could be the pressure in 9.00 am to 5.00 PM job? In two months he was supposed to retire. If pressure is the factor then all our Station House Officers would have committed suicide first because they work round the clock under real pressure,” a senior office told ‘Andaman Sheekha’, who does not want his name to be quoted.
Meanwhile a case of Unnatural Death has been registered by police in this regard and the body was handed over to the family this afternoon after post-mortem.
The police department is conducting further inquiry in this regard and investigation is also being carried out to find out if there is anything wrong in the office records of the quarter master store room, which could also be a reason behind this suicides.
“Of course the second suicide by staffs of same office of quarter master raises many doubts. According to our report the person was absolutely normal and yesterday was great day as our department had opened a Canteen for police families inside Police Line and everybody was happy,” the officer added.
Earlier on 24 June 2009 Station Head officer of Mayaybunder Police Station of North Andaman, Sub- Inspector Dharam Singh had committed suicide because of alleged work pressure and frustration.
