Port Blair, Jan 27: International Conference on “Recent Perspectives in Macromolecular Structure and Function (ICMSF-2012)” got inaugurated today on 27th January, 2012 by the chief guest of the inaugural session Mr. Shakti Sinha, IAS, Chief Secretary, A & N Administration at the conference hall of CARI, Garacharma. Speaking on the occasion, he expressed his happiness on organizing of such conferences by the Institute and other departments wherein the island is able to contribute in the development process and will act as the knowledge hub in future. He also released a souvenir cum abstract on “Recent Perspectives in Macromolecular Structure and Function”.
Dr. S.K.Ambast, Director CARI and Chairman of the conference in his presidential address informed the house on the Island scenario, availability of rich flora, fauna, the conservation and bio-prospecting work carried by the Institute on the plant and animal biodiversity. He further stressed on the upcoming field viz., bio-informatics, geo -informatics and Nanotechnology which is opening news vistas for the coming generation.
Dr. P.Vijayachari, Regional Director, RMRC, Port Blair, Prof. Udo Heineman from Max-Delbruck Centre for Molecular Medicine, Berlin, Germany and Dr. Dietmar J. Manstein, Professor & Director, Hannover Medical School, Hannover, Germany the Guest of honours also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the relevance of the topic in the present and future scenario in the field of varietal improvement, drugs/vaccine development and sharing of knowledge across the nations.
A total of 80 delegates representing from mainland India and countries viz., Germany, Brazil and Singapore are attending the two days conference sponsored by DBT, ICAR and ICMR which will be concluded on 28th January, 2012.
At the outset the inaugural programme started with an ICAR Geet followed by welcome address by Dr. M. Balakrishnan, Organizing Secretary and vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. A. Velmurugan, Co-organizing Secretary of ICMSF-2012 at the end.
