Mayabunder, July 10: Considering the growing number of Corona Positive cases in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Dipankar Mistry has urged the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to shut the schools till 31st August 2020 and prohibit the movements of Teachers and other central government staffs towards the North and Middle Andaman region.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, Mr. Mistry stated that the Lt Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 13th March 2020 had ordered to close the schools and colleges from 16th March to 28th March 2020 in the Islands as a preventive measure against the pandemic.
“The cases of Corona has increased, and also the flow of passengers from COVID-19 hit states is on in the Islands, hence, keeping all this in mind, I request the CS to shut the schools till 31st August and prohibit movement of teachers and other central government staffs in the North and Middle Andaman after the vacation,” Mr. Mistry added.
Earlier the Tribal Development Council had also put similar demands. Before Summer Vacation for nearly two months all schools had conducted online classes and many believe that online classes should be conducted by teachers atleast till 31st August 2020, without physically moving from one Island to another.
There are many who believe that by restricting movement of thousands of teachers after summer vacation, the administration will be able to minimize risk of spread of COVID19 infection. However, before starting of normal classroom teaching, teachers can be sent to respective place of posting.
