Great Nicobar, June 22: A 49-year-old man, alleged assailant of the 26-year-old lady, Ms. Bichitra Roy, ANM by profession, was caught by the Campbell Bay Police Unit at around 07:00 AM today at Shastri Nagar, 30 kilometers, after he came out of the woods for food.
As per reports, police believes that the assailant, Mr. Somra Ram, was in a black mood since many days after the lady rejected his proposal, and this is said to be the reason why he attacked the lady, a Corona Warrior, when she came to the Bus Stand at Shastri Nagar after finishing her work of the door to door testing of people, regarding Corona Pandemic.
Victim, Ms. Bichitra Roy who suffered significant injuries on her forehead, face, and on the right side of her waist after the attack is still in the CHC Campbell Bay but she is getting tremendous support from her friends and colleagues.
Not only this, today when the accused was brought in the CHC Campbell Bay for medical at around 11:00 am, several female friends and colleagues of the victim surrounded the accused to attack him but he was rescued because of the Police presence.
As per reports, the accused has a very good understanding of nearby Forest and is expert in surviving inside woods for long. However, the efforts made by the Campbell Bay Police unit to catch the assailant was outstanding.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, the DySP, Great Nicobar, Mr. Prashant Choudary said that four teams were constituted to catch the assailant.
“All the four teams under the leadership of Subramani, SHO Campbell Bay, ASI, SK Bansal, HC Om Prakash kept an eye all around the woods in the Shastri Nagar area since the attack and finally when the assailant came out of the forest at Shastri Nagar, 30 kilometers, he was caught,” said Mr. Choudary.
The DySP also clarified that the attack had no connection with Coronavirus testing and the accused used to call the victim, propose and the rejection from the lady might be the reason behind the attack.”We are yet to investigate the accused in depth,” DySP added.
As per reports, the accused will be produced in the Court of law tomorrow.
