Port Blair, June 02: Following the news published by Andaman Sheekha Daily about missing cargo consignments of Great Nicobar traders from MV Coral Queen ship, the ship officials have now reviewed the matter and it has been found by them that from ship there is no possibility of missing any such cargo consignment.
According to Master of the Ship, it is almost impossible to miss cargo as the ship has CCTV cameras everywhere and also the consignments are kept under a huge cover safely.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, the Master of the ship said that most of the consignments being sent to Great Nicobar from Port Blair doesn’t have proper bill and hence it becomes very difficult to understand whose consignment is going from Port Blair to Great Nicobar and what package is actually missing.
He added that while loading consignments at Port Blair by labourers, there is no check on the consignments, which could be the main reason why some consignment goes missing.
However, traders of Great Nicobar argued that the CCTV camera can’t detect missing cargo as if some cargo is offloaded at Karmora Island, instead of Great Nicobar Island, it would be very difficult to identify that cargo packet in CCTV footage, because of the size of each packet. Regarding issue while loading cargo the traders clarified that while loading cargo in ship on agent remains present at Jetty while labours can only enter inside ship with cargo packets and while coming back they come empty hand and hence mistake can’t be at Port Blair while loading cargo.
