Campbell Bay, May 28: Due to lack of sufficient number of sailings between Port Blair and Great Nicobar Islands, people of Great Nicobar are witnessing shortage of essential commodities in local market of the Island.
According to reports since yesterday there is shortage of milk, potatoes, onions and tomatoes. It is also learnt that the Island has stock for wheat flour only two more days.
Andaman Sheekha contacted the AC (in-charge) of Great Nicobar, Mrs. Lalitha Tigga in this regard, she accepted that there is a shortage of these commodities in market due to less number of ships reaching Great Nicobar. However, she said that tomorrow a ship is sailing from Great Nicobar from Port Blair and once the ship reaches Great Nicobar the problem will be solved.
She clarified that there is no shortage of other essential commodities in the Island.
