Port Blair, May 22: Outstanding support that too without any delay has been provided by the Andaman Nicobar Administration, to save the life of a labourer, who on 15th May 2020 sustained severe spinal injuries, when he fell from an under-construction building, at Car Nicobar Island.
The labourer Mr. Khajar Malik was soon airlifted from Car Nicobar to the GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair on 16th May 2020 itself but his condition still remains critical following which he has been referred to the Kamakshi Hospital in Chennai. The injured labourer has now been airlifted this afternoon to Chennai, along with a few other serious patients.
Not only this, the Secretary, Labour Commissioner Department, Mr. Kishan Kumar, and Labour Commissioner Mr. MS Baidya also visited the GB Pant hospital on 18th May 2020 to see the condition of the labourer and also released financial aid of rupees one lakh for his treatment.
“As the labourer is a registered worker and his condition is also critical, the board of the department decided to support the labourer financially,” Secretary Mr. Kishan Kumar said.
Mr. Kumar also told Andaman Sheekha that he has discussed the matter with the owner of the Construction Company and the owner of the company is also ready to bear the entire medical expenses of the labourer.
Secretary, Labour Commissioner Department, Mr. Kumar through Andaman Sheekha has instructed all the contractors to follow the guidelines and provide their labourers proper safety gears like helmets and shoes and ensure they are wearing it while working. The Secretary has also mentioned that strict actions will be taken in future if the guidelines are not followed by the contractors.
