Port Blair, May 15: The General Secretary of CITU State Committee, Mr. B. Chandrachoodan has written a letter to the Chief Secretary of A & N Administration and pointed out that it has been reported to the CITU State Committee that in some of the Containment Zones of Bambooflat, Wimberlygunj, Panighat, etc essential food items are not being made available to the residents, causing much hardship to them.
“Being containment zones, people are not allowed to come out of their homes to purchase essential items. While the Police and Revenue Department are more particular about strict implementation of the containment zone regulations- disallowing the citizens to come out of their homes, the authorities failed to ensure that the residents are provided with the minimum essential items at their doorstep,” the General Secretary added.
He added in his letter that people living in the containment zones should invariably be provided with essential items in their doorstep and any failure of may lead to a situation where people will be forced to come out of their homes.
“We have been informed that the Administration has failed in this regard and the people living in the containment zones of Bambooflat and adjoining areas as put to mental agony,” Mr. Chandrachoodan added.
