Port Blair, March 26: Supply of one to one and a half drum water, once in six days have triggered more panic among residents of some part of Ferrargunj area than COVID-19 threat, claims Mrs. Bishakha Samaddar, Up- Pradhan, Ferrargunj Gram Panchayat.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha over the phone, Mrs. Bishakha Samddar said that even after being a volunteer for creating awareness among villagers about the COVID-19 virus, she is in a dilemma to handle which situation first, “COVID-19 or Water issues,” Mrs. Samaddar said.
“How one drum of water will be sufficient for a family of 08-10 people” Questioned Mrs. Samaddar.
She further said that severe water shortage in the area has forced some residents of her village to walk more than one hour inside the forest to reach a water resource, where they wash clothes, bath and bring drinking water for them in gallons, “as water is also essential for living the residents don’t have any other option to do so even in this situation of COVID- 19 threat,” said Mrs. Samaddar.
Mrs. Samaddar said that to save water the residents of her village have also started using banana leaves for having their food and there are also people in her village who have also started digging wells, however, till now none are successful, what else to do? Mrs. Samaddar questioned.
Besides this, Mrs. Samaddar also added that for the last 35- 36 days no LPG has been supplied in her area that is adding to the woes of the villagers.
Lastly, Mrs. Samaddar requested the authorities to pay attention to the aforesaid issues or else, people will have no other choice left than to come out of their home and cry for help.
