Port Blair, Mar 25: Appreciating the efforts made by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration in preventing the entry of deadly COVID -19 in A & N Islands, the Member of Parliament of A & N Islands has urged the Chief Secretary give wide publicity to various advisories , notices and orders which are issued by the different departments of the administration in connection with the prevention of COVID-19 in the public domain, so that the purpose envisaged in issuing such instructions and advisories successfully achieved.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary the MP also urged to display of banners / hoardings at prominent locations related to prevention of COVID -19 and to include the Print and Electronic media for issue of fuel for the use of Media persons and their reporting staff including paper distribution.
“In the above context, I would suggest that the services of local electronic and print media as also cable networks may be utilised by the administration to spread maximum awareness about COVID-19 and the steps taken by the administration towards its prevention in different languages, so that different sections of the society residing in these islands can become more conscious and precautious about this pandemic disease. In this regard, I would like to invite reference to the Govt. of India, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, New Delhi letter No. E-36011/8/2020-BP&L dated 23rd March, 2020 addressed to Chief Secretaries of all States/UTs (copy enclosed) wherein specific emphasis is given to utilise the locally available resources such as newspapers, TV channels, cable networks etc. for wider and quick dissemination of information for awareness of people and also to ensure operational continuity of Print and Electronic Media by providing necessary facilities in view of threat of COVID-19 outbreak,” the MP added.
