Port Blair, Mar 12: A bus in bad shape that has been allotted for students of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences, Port Blair left around 35 students in a dangerous position yesterday, evening.
As per reports, the bus left yesterday at 04:45 pm from the ANIIMS main building with 35 students but soon it developed brake failure that too in a steep slope.
The Bus driver struggled to control the bus in the slope. Sources said that as the driver didn’t panic, he took the bus towards garage area of the campus saving life of all 35 students.
According to the sources, the bus has always given students trouble, “Many a time while driving uphill, the bus stops and then the driver used to ask student to keep some stopper behind the wheels and then he marches the bus again. There were incidents when students were asked to get down from bus, which was going in reverse,” alleged parent of a student on the condition of anonymity.
After the incident, many parents of students are now demanding the college authorities to provide a new bus for the students for safe daily traveling to the Medical College.
In yesterday’s incident the driver saved life of all students, tomorrow things might go wrong again. The Medical College authority must take some preventive measures now, urged a parent.
