Port Blair, March 09: A team of officials from National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Ministry of Rural Development Government of India, Hyderabad consisting of Senior Consultant Engineer, Er. B. R. Prasad and Dr. K. M. Lakshmana Rao, Professor in Transportation Engineering, Centre for Transportation Engineering, Telangana called upon Mr. Subir Chander, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman on 05th March 2k20 in his chamber.
The team deliberated upon the impediments being faced in implementation of Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) & Special Central Assistance (SCA) works in A & N Islands. The team apprised the Adhyaksh about introduction of new technology in execution of road works. Mr. Subir Chander bewailed that availability of material aggregates was one of the manor hurdles in implementation of the Centrally Sponsored works. He also expressed concern that the quality of materials available in these islands were not qualitatively good in comparison to materials used in mainland and foreign countries because of which the durability of the roads is affected adversely. He opined that, in order to redress this issue, material aggregates should be allowed to be brought from mainland or foreign countries.
The team intimated that the works taken up by the NIRD team viz. PMGSY and CSA would attended and handled by the NIRD for 11 years continuously i.e. after execution the NIRD team would undertake relaying of the work after 05 years and again after another 05 years NIRD would undertake one more relaying of the road work executed.
These projects were in the form of large packages which could be taken up by multi-national companies and high class contractors who were adept in undertaking quality works of international repute using latest technology.
The team invited Adhyaksh and his team to visit NIRD, Telangana to have an exposure in the field of functioning of the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and also to have a first-hand information on execution of works within the PRIs.
