Port Blair, Mar 06: The Director General of Police, Mr. Dipendra Pathak today convened Annual Press Conference of Andaman & Nicobar Police at Police Line, Port Blair.
The Director General of Police highlighted the achievements and new initiatives of A & N Police during last one year. He told that sincere efforts were made by his team to make policing prompt, effective and citizen friendly. The success of the same is reflected from the bench mark achievements and time bound resolution of cases as well as issues.
Mr. Pathak, told media persons that the Police is working with full transparency and solving cases in close coordination with islanders and media persons.
During the press conference it was mentioned that a total number of 564 IPC cases were registered in last one year. Among other crucial data shared during the press conference a total 13 cases of Murder registered during the year 2019 in comparison to 11 in the 2018. All the cases have been worked out except one. The workout percent is 92% in the year 2019 in comparison to 82% in 2018.
Cases of Rape have been decreased in the year 2019 from 2018. Total 13 cases of Murder registered during the year 2019 in comparison to 30 in the 2018 with 100% workout.
There is decrease in Riot case only 03 cases have been reported in comparison 06 cases registered in year 2018. All the cases have been worked out.
No case of Dacoity & Robbery has been reported during the year 2019 in comparison to 04 cases reported in the year 2018
Burglary by Night – 22 cases registered in 2019 in comparison to 30 cases in 2018 with workout percent of 86%.
Burglary by Day- 16 cases registered in 2019 in comparison to 31 cases in 2018 with workout percent of 68%.
Other thefts – 32 cases registered in 2019 in comparison to 70 cases in 2018 with workout percent of 53%.
Accident – 230 cases registered in 2019 in comparison to 254 cases in 2018 with workout percent of 68%.
Cheating – 12 cases registered in 2019 in comparison to 32 cases in 2018.
Assault of Public Servant – 13 cases registered in 2019 in comparison to 13 cases in 2018 with workout percent of 92%.
Molestation of Women(354) – 25 cases registered in 2019 in comparison to 35 cases in 2018 with workout percent of 96%.
Other IPC cases – 48 cases registered in 2019 in comparison to 63 cases in 2018 with workout percent of 87%.
During the year 2019, 133 Cases have been registered under NDPS, Act in comparison to 49 cases in the year 2018. In which 114.797 Kgs, illicit ganja, 32 No. Cannabis plant were seized. Total 172 persons involved in these excise cases were arrested.
During the year 2019, 3213 Cases have been registered under Excise Regulation in comparison to 2822 cases in the year 2018. In which 8251 bottles of 750 ml illicit liquor, 559 Kgs of illicit handia and 523 bottles of beers were recovered. Total 3214 persons (2928 Male and 286 females) involved in these excise cases were arrested.
Last year, 61 cases of gambling were detected in comparison to 23 in the year 2018. Total 353 persons were arrested. An amount of Rs.15,62,678/ – has been recovered.
A total number of 12 cases under other miscellaneous Acts, 04 case under 14 Foreigner’s Act, 09 cases under PAT Regulation, 03 cases under essential commodities Act, 03 case under MZI Act and 94 cases under POCSO were reported during the period.
During the press conference Mr. K. Ganeshan, President, Andaman & Nicobar Media Federation requested DGP to appoint an authorized police personnel as Public Relation Officer, so that media persons can dissipate necessary information to media and common people as and when required. The DGP accepted the proposal and assured the house that PRO will be appointed soon.
