Port Blair, March 02: Andaman & Nicobar Police in collaboration with Bureau of Police Research & Development organized two training programmes for investigators on “Safety of Women” at Police Training School, Prothrapur from 17th February 2020 to 21st February 2020 & 24th February 2020 to 28th February 2020 and Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr. Dependra Pathak, IPS, was the Chief Guest on the occasion of valediction ceremony of the programme organized at Police Training School, Prothrapur on 28th February 2020. Shri Madhup Kumar Tewari, IPS, Inspector General of Police (L&O), Mr. Sanjay Kumar, IPS, Inspector General of Police (HQ), Mr. Sanjay Kumar Jain, IPS, Inspector General of Police, Mr. Vijay Singh, IPS, DIGP (Intl.), Mr. Jatin Narwal, IPS, DIGP (HQ), all Superintendents of Police, Dy. Superintendents of Police, all Inspectors and Station House Officers also attended the valedictory function.
These Training programmes for investigators on “Safety of women” were organized so as to empower them with the required professionalism, in terms of knowledge, skills and attitudes, for dealing with the cases of violence against women and also for effectively addressing the challenges relating to women safety. It was felt that building the capacity of police personnel is essential for ensuring the protection of women’s rights and for providing a safe and secure environment for women. These programmes were sponsored by BPR&D under Nirbhaya Fund.
The Director General of Police, in his valedictory address, emphasized on the need for greater sensitivity in handling the victims of crime against women and a professional approach for investigating these cases. He expressed satisfaction that these programmes have provided a very useful platform to the participants to learn the nuances of investigation related to crime against women and to share their problems and difficulties in the investigation of sensitive cases. He also interacted with the participants and responded to the questions raised by them on various issues such as sensitivity towards complainant(s)/victim(s) of crime, effective and visible patrolling, examination of witnesses, court procedures etc. He also appreciated and complimented the efforts of entire team of Police Training School for organizing these programmes. Earlier, Ms. Usha Rangnani, IPS, Principal, Police Training School, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the key elements of the training programme.A total of 50 participants have benefitted from the programme.
The important topics that were covered in these training programmes were crime against women, victim counseling, crime scene investigation, forensic medicine and post mortem examinations, scientific interrogation techniques, mobile forensics and digital evidence, cybercrime and cyber security, recent amendments in laws related to crime against women and behavioral techniques for dealing with victims and complainants of crime against women. Experts from the field and specialists in subjects have taken Lectures on these topics and given their valuable inputs for building the proficiency of police personnel for investigating the cases of crime against women and for sensitizing them towards women safety. This time more emphasis was laid on practical exposure through case studies, group exercises, role-plays, demonstration and illustrations apart from theoretical lectures so as to develop necessary skills in trainees to translate knowledge into action and to understand the theoretical training in its proper perspective. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Mr. Michael Raj, DANIPS, Vice Principal, Police Training School, Prothrapur.
