Port Blair, Feb 27: The Department of Home Science, JNRM, in association with the National Commission for Women, Govt. of India organised a one day Legal Awareness Programme (LAP) for the girl students of JNRM on 27th February 2020.
During the inauguration the Chief Guest Mr. Sanjay Kumar Jain, IPS, Inspector General of Police, Andaman and Nicobar Police congratulated the Department of Home Science for organising this programme which is the need of hour. Fundamental Rights as enshrined by the Constitution of India is providing an opportunity for empowerment of women, he added. Mr. Sanjay Kumar Jain, IPS highlighted the right to life and liberty is a platform in which one gets quality education and health facilities. The womenfolk should not confine themselves within four wall and infact they should come forward to help other women to safeguard their rights, he opined.
Dr.J.S.Manhas, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Hindi, JNRM spoke on the relevance of the programme in today’s scenario. He has also emphasised the historical perspectives of women rights and their development. Dr. K.Venkatesan, HOD, Homescience and Convener of the programme spoke on the role of NCW in safeguarding the women and their rights and their guidance for the women in the length and breath of our country. Earlier Mrs. Nidhi Shekhawat, Assistant Professor welcomed the gathering Altogether 110 students from the Department of Home Science, English, Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Economics, Political Science, BBA Tourism and Geography participated in this programme. Mrs. T.Hemavathi, Inspector of Police, i/c CAW Cell spoke on women and legal rights, Mr. Karthik Shiva.B, Assistant Professor of Law, Andaman Law College spoke on Women and Constitution of India, Mr. Keshab Barikdar spoke on the free legal services provided by DLSA and Dr.K.Venkatesan, HoD, Home Science spoke on the crimes related to women and their prevention. The programme ended with vote of thanks proposed by Dr.Rekha Kumari, Resource Person, Department of Home Science. Mrs. Nitika Garhia, Resource Person, Department of Home Science moderated the entire programme.
