Port Blair, Feb 26: In order to ensure fire and life safety norms for various buildings, the Lt. Governor, A & N Islands has passed an Executive Order recently wherein a No Objection Certificate from A & N Fire Service is mandatory in respect of both pre-constructional activities as well as after construction of the building for granting of completion certificate.
As per the said order, the Panchayat and the Municipal Authority shall refer the building plans for Fire NOC for pre-constructional activities to A & N Fire Service for obtaining clearance in respect of buildings such as multi-storeyed buildings having more than 15 meter height, special buildings like educational, institutional, assembly, business, mercantile, industrial, storage and hazardous buildings as defined in National Building Code 2016 and mixed occupancies with any of the aforesaid occupancies having more than 500 square meters area.
“This order must be read and adhered to by all those undertaking such constructional activities to avoid inconvenience at a later stage,” a official caution issued by the Chief Fire Officer of Andaman and Nicobar Fire Service, Usha Ranganani said here today.
Since last several years demands were raised by civil society regarding this issue in absence of which many people were openly violating Fire Safety norms in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
In past many fire accidents have been witnessed in Andaman because of negligence with Fire Safety norms.
