Port Blair, Feb 26: A crucial meeting was held under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary of A & N Administration and Managing Director, NHIDCL at the conference hall of Secretariat, Port Blair on 20 February 2020 to review the ongoing projects under NHIDCL in Andaman.
During the meeting the point of halted work of ATR upgradation in Baratang region was also discussed. According to sources, the matter was discussed and the details about the Carriageway reduced from 7.0 mtr to 5.5 mtr width was informed by NHIDCL. The Executive Director (P) NHIDCL told the house that NHIDCL is improving and widening the road within the available formation width only and forest clearance for the same may not be required.
However, the PCCF, present in the meeting, insisted that the said forest clearance is necessary. The Chief Secretary, A & N Administration advised NHIDCL Authorities to apply for the forest clearance immediately and meanwhile continue with the work in forest area of Pkg-III (Baratang Island). MD NHIDCL also directed the General Manger (P) to apply for the said forest clearance immediately and also instructed the contractor to start the work in the stretch.
