Port Blair, Feb 18: A resident of Guptapara recently got shock of her life when she received an electricity bill of Rs. 6 Lakhs from the Electricity Department.
As per reports, the house owner namely Mrs. Jaymani Sarder, a resident of Guptapara was served with an electricity bill of Rs 6,00,033 on dated 07.02.2020, which shocked the house owners and everyone else who saw the bill.
After getting the bill on 12.02.2020, the house owner immediately rushed the Electricity Site Office, Manglutan and after registering a complaint, she got a revised bill of Rs 335 on 13.02.2020.
This is not the first such case in Andaman, in new Pahargaon many customers are getting inflated bills as the meter reader hardly visit house to house, and hence the bills are sometimes below Rs.500 and sometimes more than Rs. 2000. Even family on vacation got bills more than Rs. 2000 in past. Surprisingly even site office can’t help the customers as they say the bills of such customers are not available in record.
Thankfully in Guptapara case, there was no heart patient in the family of Mrs. Jaymani Sarder, otherwise such inflated bills might have caused heart attacks. This is high time for Electricity Department to check the bill issuing system, which appears to have many loopholes.
