Port Blair, Feb 17: Demolition of a house, constructed over freshly encroached land at Satellite Basti Campbell Bay, under Govind Nagar Panchayat, has triggered a political war between two major political parties.
According to details on last Friday the Tehsilder of Campbell Bay demolished the house on encroachment road, which was reportedly constructed over a proposed escape road. But it is learnt that the demolition team also removed the electric meter of the house.
Following this development two children living in the house, one of the children in Class X, reached infront of residence of AC Campbell Bay to study under street light. The move of both the children became talk of the town immediately and dozens of people gathered to see the children struggling to study, as the electric meter of their house was taken away by authorities.
At night the AC Campbell Bay approached the children and assured them that a temporary connection will be provided to them, after which both the children agreed to leave the venue.
Meanwhile, talking to Andaman Sheekha, the up-adhaksh of South Andaman Zilla Parishad Gagandeep Singh Grewal today said that instead of assurances by AC Campbell Bay evening by late evening, no power connection was provided by Electricity Department. He alleged that such eviction drive on targeted house without notice has forced children, facing exam, to study under street light.
According to some congress workers, because of involvement of BJP leaders in this case the electricity department is not willing to provide power connection easily. Many believe that this matter has now become an ego issue between Congress and BJP leaders.
Meanwhile, talking to Andaman Sheekha the AC Campbell Bay, Dr. Mukesh Kumar said that the fresh encroachment was done over an important site, from which the escape road is planned and hence the encroachment was removed. Moreover he said that for fresh encroachment no prior notice is necessary.
Regarding children, the AC Campbell Bay said that he has already given options to the students to study in Library or Guest House, for which necessary arrangements were already done by him. However, he assured that a temporary connection will be provided to the family considering the problems faced by the students.
