Port Blair, Feb 12: Dr. T. C. Khatri Memorial lecture was held at JNRM on 12th February 2020 in of Late Dr. T C Khatri Associate Professor and former Head of Department of Zoology, JNRM, popularly known as THE BUTTERFLY MAN of A & N Islands. It also coincides with the birth anniversary of great naturalist Robert Charles Darwin. The topic of this year’s lecture was “Global threat to Biodiversity with special reference to Australia’s Forest Fires”. Dr. Vivek Kumar Sahu, Assistant Professor, deliver memorial lecture upon Forest fire, causes, impacts, do’s and don’ts.
In his talk he mentioned that forest fire is unpredictable and in 90% cases anthropogenic activities are responsible for Forest fire, according to Global Forest Watch, the tropics overall lost some 8.9 million acres of primary rain forest, an area equal to the size of Belgium during last year. The Chief Guest Mr. Jaffer, Director of Smart Bee Solution International and alumnus of JNRM spoke about the need of collaboration in research.
The program was chaired by Dr. N. Francis Xavier, Principal JNRM, who while remembering his long association with DR Khatri threw light on different aspects of his personality. He also motivated students to go out to close to the mother nature and have keen observation. The program was attended by Faculty of JNRM and students of the departments of Botany and Zoology. The winners of essay writing competition were awarded with Prizes and Certificates.
