Port Blair, Feb 12: All arrangements for conducting the 9th Edition of Andaman Marathon 2020 by the Andaman Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ACCI), Port Blair in association with the Andaman & Nicobar Administration on 16th February, 2020 is going on in full swing. The Hon’ble Lt. Governor Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd), A&N Islands has kindly consented to flag off the event from the historic Cellular Jail on Sunday the 16th February, 2020 at 0515 hrs. and also distribute the prizes to the winners at 0730 hrs. at the Netaji Stadium. Considering the heavy rush in registration of Make My Trip Andaman Marathon 2020 the last date of receipt of registration form has been extended upto 13th February, 2020.
Andaman Marathon has four events – Half Marathon (male & female) open to all Indian National; 10K – male & female (for Islander only ); 10 K for seniors – male & female [men above 50 years and women above 40 years] ( for Islander only) and 10 K Boys & Girls [between 14 & 18 years](for Islander only) at a total prize money of Rs.8.70 lakhs. The definition of Islander for this purpose would be residents of the Islands including people who are posted/working or studying in these Islands. The event also includes a one and half kilometre ‘Run for Fun’ starting from the historic Cellular Jail and concluding at Netaji Stadium.

The Doordarshan, Port Blair will telecast the Flag off of Andaman Marathon 2020 at the Cellular Jail National Memorial premises – the starting point of the event and also at the prize distribution function at the Netaji Stadium. A gist of the Andaman Marathon will be telecasted through DD National. AIR will also broadcast the event.
Doctor, Ambulance and Para Medical staff support is being provided by the Director of Health Services and the Police Department has been made adequate arrangements for traffic and safety of runners. Transport Department will be providing special Bus services from Shoalbay/Mannarghat/ Wimberlygunj to Bambooflat and from Ferrargunj to Port Blair and from Chidiyatapu/Wandoor to Port Blair and from Chatham/Phoenix Bay to Cellular Jail so as to enable the people to reach in time at the Cellular Jail National Memorial premises on 16th February, 2020 at 0500 hrs. and participate in the Andaman Marathon 2020. Shipping Department will be arranging special vehicle ferry services between Bambooflat and Chatham/Phoenix Bay (at 0415 hrs.).
This year the brand ambassador for the event is Mr. Rahul Bose, noted film actor and sports enthusiast & Celebrity Guest; Ms. Raima Sen, Celebrity Guest and Ms. Deborah Herold, Winner of Asia Cup; Taiwan Cup Track International Classic; Track India Cup and the first Indian Cyclist in the UCI rankings will be participating in the Make My Trip Andaman Marathon 2020.
The kit (including T-Shirts, bibs containing electronic timer chips & registration number) for the participants will be distributed between 9.00 AM & 5.00 PM from the Netaji Stadium on 15th February, 2020.
All citizen of Port Blair are requested to join their hands so that the Andaman Marathon 2020 can be a grand success, a release issued by Mr. Girish Arora, the President of ACCI said here today.
