Port Blair, Feb 10: In its endeavour to weed out corruption from A & N Islands, a team of Anti-Corruption Unit arrested Mr. Srinivas, Surveyor red handed for demanding illegal gratification of Rs. 40000 and accepting Rs. 15000 as an advance from the complainant for demarcation and preparation of sketch map.
A complaint was received in ACU regarding illegal demand by the Surveyor posted in AC(Settlement) office, Port Blair for carrying out demarcation and preparation of sketch map so that the property can be divided amongst the legal heirs. This work was kept pending by the Surveyor for last six months.
Immediately the FIR under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at PS Anti-Corruption Unit. A trap laying team comprising of independent witnesses and headed by Inspector K. Joju, SHO ACU was formed under the supervision of Dy.SP/ACU Sh. Jai Kishan.
The trap was laid at the spot in a market where the Surveyor had asked the complainant to come and hand over the bribe money. The Surveyor accepted money from the complainant and immediately he was apprehended red handed with the tainted bribe money amounting to Rs. 15000/- and all legal formalities including arrest were completed by the ACU.
