Mayabunder, Feb 09: Getting a filled LPG cylinder has become the most difficult task in Mayabunder region it seems. Because of long gaps in arrival of LPG distribution trucks, people of the region have become restless and are fuming.
This is why whenever a truck with filled LPG reaches Mayabunder area, a mad race begins to track the truck and get an LPG cylinder at any cost. Some people come from far flung villages to Mayabunder area paying Rs. 100 to Rs. 200 to autorikshaws. Sadly not everyone can afford to book an auto and follow the LPG distribution truck.
Andaman Sheekha has photographs which show mad rush of public, especially ladies to get a LPG cylinder. Andaman Sheekha in earlier occasions had also published photographs showing pubic of Mayabunder region climbing up on trucks to get LPG cylinders at any cost.
Mad crowd, verbal abuses, minor brawls are common during such LPG cylinder chase among residents of Mayabunder area.
Meanwhile, the ex-pramukh of Mayabunder region Mr. Abdul Siddique has written a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman and requested him to intervene into this matter and direct the concerned LPG department and distributing agencies streamline entire process of LPG distribution and deliver LPG cylinder to remote village, where there are roads.
