Baratang, Feb 09: Finally the works for construction of bridge over Middle Strait seems to have begun. At Oralkatcha village of Baratang, from where the bridge is aligned upto Middle Strait, works for construction of shed for labourers and also the first filler have started.
Earlier the NHIDCL contractors have filled the entire marshy area, from Orakatcha to the sea shore, with earth and have now clearly marked 11 to 12 spots, with flags, where pillars of the said bridge will probably be erected.
As per sign board placed at the landing point of the bridge, the actual name of the project is “Construction of Major bridge over Middle Strait Creek between KM 106.590 km to KM 107.762 of NH -4, connecting South Andaman & Baratang Island on EPC basis.”
Mantena Vasistha Bridge JV is the contractor of this project and name of the authority engineer are Yongama Engineering Co. Ltd. in association with Techniko Consultancy Services Pvt. Ltd.
However after a long wait, people of Baratang are extremely happy to see some ground level work starting at Oralkatcha, regarding the bridge.
