Port Blair, Feb 28: Two medium-intensity earthquakes hit the Nicobar Islands within a span of five hours today, the Indian Meteorological Department reported.
According to IMD a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale hit the Nicobar Islands Region at 5.30 AM, followed by another at 10:30 AM having a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter scale.
The quakes were in the Nicobar Islands region and occurred at a depth of 94-km and 10-km respectively.
The Andaman and Nicobar archipelago falls under a high seismic zone.
Although no damages were reported immediately, it is learnt that the earthquake was not so powerful as to issue a warning.
