Port Blair, Nov 25: The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration Sh. Chetan B Sanghi, IAS visited Campbell Bay on 24th November 2018 along with Director General of Police Sh. Dependra Pathak, Commander, Coast Guard Sh. M.V. Pathak and Sh. Udit Prakash Rai, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman. A meeting was held at APWD, Guest House. The Deputy Commissioner, Nicobars welcomed the gathering of PRI members, Tribal Council, Great & Little Nicobar Island and all HO’s.
During the discussion the PRI members and Tribal Council raised several issues regarding development of tourism, shipping schedule, civil supply etc.
The Chief Secretary, A & N Administration took note of the issues and directed the concerned department to resolve the issues for the benefit of the islanders.
The Chief Secretary informed the gathering about tourism potential of Campbell Bay and he also made some announcements regarding notifying Campbell Bay Port as custom notified port which will smoothen entry of foreign vessels and also there will be zero import duty at such port. He made aware the gathering about hidden resource of tuna fish in the coastal waters of Great & Little Nicobar Islands and emphasized upon tapping such resource. He also emphasized upon formation of co-operative societies for socio-economic development of Tribal Council and Panchayats of Great & Little Nicobar Islands.
The Chief Secretary inspected Breakwater jetty where ALHW informed him about ongoing developmental project in jetty area along with future development plans. He also visited Joginder Nagar village beach where he appreciated aesthetic view of area and flagged it as a future tourist site.
