Port Blair, Dec 01: District Industries Centre, Andaman & Nicobar Administration organized awareness-cum-motivational Programme on Prime Ministers Employment Generation Scheme (PMEGP) and other government sponsored schemes of Line Departments of Andaman & Nicobar Administration at Katchal & Kamorta in Nancowry Group of Islands on 24th and 25th November, 2016.
The Programmes were organized in association with Andaman & Nicobar Sate Cooperative Bank, SBI, Department of Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry & Vety. Services, Department of Fisheries, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghtan, Block Development Office and Tribal Council. The main objective of the programme were to disseminate information about self employment schemes such as Prime Ministers Employment Generation Scheme (PMEGP) and Govt. Sponsored Schemes being implemented by Line Department of A & N Administration which provides gainful employment opportunities to the unemployed youths.
While welcoming the audience, Shri. Jawaharlal Das, Economic Investigator welcomed the dignitaries and participants who were present. He also highlighted the objectives of organizing such awareness-cum-motivational programme which is a peoples education programme emphasizing on need for creating awareness among the unemployed youths.
Speaking on the occasion during the programme at Kamorta, the Chief Guest Shri Casper James, Assistant Commissioner, Nancowry stated that the process of opting self employment needs planning and guidance from agencies such as District industries Centre and Banks. He motivated and urged the youths to first select an activity of their choice and ability then get trained and latter seek financial assistance under the different scheme. He also urged the youths to utilize this opportunity provided by DIC in brining all the Department of the A&N Administration and Banks under one roof and get all the required information and be benefited. He further assured that he shall extend full support in respect for grounding the activity by the unemployed youths under self employment schemes. He emphasized on the fact that SME’s are the largest employment providers in Indian contest and encouraged the youths to take interest in self employment rather than in waiting for jobs.
During the Technical Session of the programme the resource person from District Industries Center Shri K. Jai Kumar, IPO(EI), DIC explained in details about the eligibility condition and other parameters of Prime Ministers Employment Generation Programme and Stand up India schemes of Govt. of India.
The Resource Person from Department of Fisheries, Smt. Jolly Varghese, Assistant Fisheries Development Officer, Kamorta. Dr. Ashim Roy, Sr. Veterinary Officer, Kamorta. Shri A. Soundar Rajan, Assistant Director, Department Agriculture. Mohammed Tarique Shah, Youth Coordinator from NYKS, Kamorta. Shri Belthazer, Extension Officer, BDO, Kamorta and Shri Moosa Mohd Hussain, Sr. Manager, ANSCB, Kamorta explained in detail the various scheme, programme and assistance provided by their respective departments towards promotion and growth of self employment.
After the deliberation, an Inter Active Session was arranged in the presence of Shri Casper James, Assistant Commissioner, Nancowry between the participants and Resource Persons of Line Departments. During the session the prospective entrepreneurs raised some issues which were answered satisfactorily and settled by the Resource Persons amicably.
Altogether, the Programmes were attended by 76 people from the adjoining areas. Out of which 16 prospective entrepreneurs came forward with their interest in different projects based on suitability of the area concerned. Subsequently, their projects were placed and selected by the Sub-Taskforce committee under the chairmanship of Assistant Commissioner Nancowry and the selected applications will be forwarded to the concern Banks for financial assistance under PMEGP.
