Port Blair, May 29: The Government Sr. Sec. School Malaccca has created istory this year by recording zero percentage result in CBSE Class XII examination. According to details available here with Andaman Sheekha, altogether 40 students appeared in CBSE Class XII exam this year from GSSS Malacca but none of them could pass the exams.
Situation is almost same in other two Sr. Secondary Schools of Car Nicobar viz GSSS Sawai and GSSS Lapathy. According to report from GSSS Sawai 23 students appeared in Class XII exam and only eight cleared the exam while from GSSS Lapathy 114 students appeared in Class XII exam and only 17 of them managed to pass.
Those who were from science stream failed mostly in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, which clearly shows that due to lack of proper teaching, none of the student could clear the examination.
Things are not different in other remote Islands of Nicobar District. In Nancowry from GSSS Champin 64 students appeared in the exam and only 7 passed while from GSSS Kapanga 24 students appeared out of which only 13 could clear the examination.
In entire Nicobar District altogether 357 students appeared in CBSE Class XII exam, out of which only 127 managed to clear the exam and the total pass percentage of Nicobar District was only 35.5%.
Though there are many who believe that the main reason behind this poor result is strict vigilance this year as cheating during exam was totally prohibited this time but others believe that lack of devoted teachers was the main reason behind this disaster.
“A teacher spends more than five months in Port Blair and not in Car Nicobar and other remote Islands and under these circumstances how could someone expect better results in Nicobar District. Nicobar District needs more and more good teachers who remain at the station throughout the session and teach local students well,” said an angry parent.
However, even after several attempts, Andaman Sheekha Correspondent could not meet the Director of Education today for a comment.
This is high time for the Administration to learn a lesson from this disaster and streamline the education system, especially in Nicobar District as such poor results clearly show that something has terribly gone wrong in the Education Policy of A & N Administration. Perhaps the Education Department needs some major changes and reshuffling.
