Staff Correspondent Port Blair, Jan 08: The Andaman and Nicobar is collecting money from visiting tourists everyday as entry fee, which according to the ANC is used for Maintenance of Ross Island but when Andaman Sheekha reporter recently visited Ross Island it was found that the entire Island is in real bad shape. Footpaths are broken, garbage could be seen all around and most importantly the toilet blocks are in horrible shape.
Andaman Sheekha has photographs, which shows how these toilet blocks of Ross Island are maintained, perhaps Ross Island management is waiting for next millennium to repair the toilet blocks and the footpaths. Not only this, most of the garbage bins do not have a cover. The covers are either blown away by wind or thrown away by people.
Empty wrappers and other wastes could be seen everywhere. The ANC charges Rs. 20 from civilians and Rs. 10 from Defence personnel, which is huge lot of money but if the funds are not utilized for proper upkeep of Ross Island then what is the meaning of taxing people.
