Port Blair, May 01: Based on the communication received from the Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Long Island, Mr. B.P.Ray, Member of Parliament of Andaman & Nicobar Islands in a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, A & N Islands vide dated 30th April, 2015 has requested to intervene in the matter of death of one patient in PHC long Island due to non-availability of Doctor and other supporting staff.
In the said letter Mr. Ray has further added that, beside the letter to the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Health), the issue for non-availability of Doctor and supporting staff at PHC Long Island has been also raised in the discussion which held at Raj Niwas earlier before and also during the recent State Plan Board Meeting held in Megapode Resort on 25th April, 2015.
Mr. Ray alleged that despite of his repeated request, the Administration did not take any action to fill all the vacant posts including the post of Doctor at PHC Long Island according to the sanctioned strength.
Mr. Ray also informed that, since inception of PHC Long Island, a Doctor was posted to PHC Long Island, but unfortunately after his transfer, the department did not bothered to replace with another Doctor. Resulted in which, about 2000 population of Long Island are passing their life span with great difficulties of their treatment and also for Health care, which is basic need of every citizen.
Mr. Ray has requested the Lt. Governor, A & N Islands to make necessary immediate arrangement for posting of Doctor and supporting staff to PHC Long Island, so as to prevent from such consequences for ever”.
