Port Blair, May 01: Mr. N K Sharma, Secretary (RD/PRI) and Mission Director for PMJDY alongwith the officials of the Banks and Insurance Companies operating in these Islands attended the Video Conference conducted on 30th April 2015 by the Secretary (FS), Govt of India to brief the States and Union Territories about the New Social Security Schemes viz Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Atal Pension Yojana. It has been informed in the video conference that these schemes would be launched on 9th May’2015 by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. The Secretary (FS), Govt. of India discussed in detail of these new three schemes and asked the States and UTs to implement them in their true letter and spirit and also to cover/enroll the maximum number of people.
The individuals can get their life insured for Rs 2.00 lac by paying a nominal premium of Rs 12/- for accidental insurance under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and can also get the benefit of life insurance covered for Rs 2.00 lacs for death occurred due to any reason by paying a premium of Rs 330/- per annum under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana. The Atal Pension Yojana scheme would benefit the old age income of the working poor who would receive a fixed minimum pension of Rs 1000/- Rs 2000/- Rs 3000/- Rs 4000/- and Rs 5000/- per month at the age of 60 yrs by paying a monthly contribution ranging between Rs 42/- to Rs 1454/- depending on their age. These premiums have to be paid from the savings bank account of the beneficiary. The VC was concluded with the appeal from the Secretary (FS), Govt. of India to ensure adequate publicity of the schemes and to organize mega function on the day of launch of the schemes by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. Secretary (RD/PRIs) and Mission Director for PMJDY asked the bankers and Insurance companies to accordingly organize mega camps for the successful launch of the scheme in these islands.
For the effective launch of the scheme, the Cabinet Secretary, Govt. of India also held a video conference on 1st May 2015 with the Chief Secretaries of States/UTs and requested all the State Administrations to cooperate for the successful implementation of the schemes. The Chief Secretary, Commr-cum-Secretary (Fin.) and Secretary (RD/ PRIs) attended the video conference. Chief Secretary desired Commr-cum-Secretary (Fin) and Lead Dist Manager to ensure proper publicity of the schemes and launching the Mega Camp on 9th May in a befitting manner.
