Port Blair, Jan 08: The 23rd Road Safety Week, being observed by Traffic Police from 1st January concluded today on 07th January in Port Blair with a motorcycle rally from National Memorial Cellular Jail. The Deputy Inspector General of Police (L&O), Mr. Anand Mohan IPS, was the Chief Guest on the concluding ceremony. Flagging off the rally, Mr. Anand Mohan called upon the road users, general public and students to observe safe road behaviour and improve traffic culture among all, especially among the adolescents. Mr. Anand congratulated the Traffic Police for the successful completion of the week which has highlighted the importance of Road Safety among the masses.
The Motorcycle Rally was taken out by Traffic and local Police from the Cellular Jail to Bathubasti and back via Prothrapur, Austinabad, Chakkargaon and Murgan Temple. Thirty five riders participated in the rally wearing ISI Helmets and fluorescent Jackets to create awareness on safe riding and mandatory use of proper helmets.
Mr. Anand Mohan also thanked all school students, general public, officials of SAI, trainees of PTS Police Line, IRBn and the media for extending their support to organize the Road Safety Week.
During this 23rd Road Safety Week, several programmes were organized, including Blood Donation Camp, Free Eye check up for drivers, free pollution check, Road Safety Walk, Police Band Display at Children Traffic Park and Tiranga Park besides Painting competitions among school children. Lectures on Road Safety were regularly delivered at various schools in Port Blair by Police officers to educate children on Road Safety. The Traffic Police has also distributed thousands of educational pamplets to students of Port Blair and nearby areas to create awareness on traffic rules and road safety.
