Port Blair, Dec 17: Finally the Tourism Department is taking some serious steps to prevent crocodile attacks and ward off killer crocodiles, which have already triggered panic among local residents and tourists.
The Joint Director, Directorate of Tourism, Mr Arun Gupta, DANICS, today said that the Tourism department has started operating of boats at main beaches like Radhanagar, Corbyn’s Cove, Wandoor etc to stop Crocodile attacks.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha today, Mr Gupta said that the best way to ward off crocodiles from beaches is to operate boats. “Because of the sound of these boats the chances of crocodiles entering the beach area will be very less. We have started such operation with boats of Tourism Department and Marine Police Force. We are also planning to hire some more boats to keep a close eye on every beach,” Mr. Gupta added.
He said that the tourism department has also placed sign boards of DOs & DONTs at all the main beaches, the department has also placed more dustbins at many beaches to keep the beach clean.
This is good that the Tourism Department has initiated some steps to keep crocodiles away from popular beaches, if not the sound atleast the pollution created by boat engines will surely keep the crocs and other creatures away from Andaman beaches.
