Port Blair, Oct 10: A team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested one Junior Engineer in Graft Case, from Haddo.
According to information received here the Junior Engineer (E & M) Mr. Ajay Kumar, Sub Division office of Haddo, Port Blair has been caught red handed while taking a bribe of Rs. 2 lakhs from an electrical contractor for processing his bills.
The said contractor had been awarded a contract of electrical installation and repair of Rs.14.96 Lakhs, which was supervised by Assistant Engineer, Mr. R Manivannan and JE Mr. Ajay Kumar. As per report the JE was posted in the sub division office of Haddo only 10 days back.
Information has also been gathered that Supervising the work of the JE, AE was also present and in his presence these illegal transaction took place. The AE will also be questioned by the CBI soon, it is learnt.
A case has been registered by the CBI on the basis of a written complaint by the contractor and after laying the trap the accused JE was arrested and a sum of Rs. 2 lakh was recovered from his procession.
He was produced before Mr. Joy Shankar Roy, Hon’ble Chief Judicial Magistrate Port Blair who ordered for Judicial Remand of the accused and to produce the accused on the court of special judge on 13.10.2014.
This is the same team headed by Mr. Anil Singh, Head of Branch who cracked the blind case of permanent duty claim case of the Navy and Coast Guard, in which crores of government money was falsely claimed by a lot of all ranked officials of the Navy and Coast Guard.
