Port Blair, Aug 28: In a noble endeavour, the renowned Socio-Cultural Forum “KASHEESH” disbursed Rs.1.10 Lakh in total for further education of meritorious & underprivileged Girl Children of the Islands during a Cultural-Charity Show organised on 24th Aug, 2014 at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Auditorium. Kumari Krishanaa Halder of VKV, Diglipur, identified by the Directorate of Education, A & N Administration as the most deserving student was handed over a cheque of Rs.25,000/- and Rs. 50,000/- donated to L.G’s Relief Fund with a request to utilise the same for need of such Girl Children. Besides this, an amount of Rs.35,000/- was also given away to Kumari N. Pooja for pursuing her higher education, adopted by the Forum during 2012 and passed out from JNV, Panchawati this year.
Speaking on the occasion, the ANCOFED Chairman Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, the Chief Guest lauded the efforts of KASHEESH for setting an epitome by organising the Charity show with a special mention of Mr. Ranjan Podder, the Patron and also felicitated few Islands’ achievers Ms. Deborah (Cyclist of International Fame), Smt. Milka Manaf (Dedicated services as Police Officer) and Mr. Bappa Roy (Immense contribution towards Development of Music). The Chief Guest also unveiled Forum’s Annual Souvenir ‘Udayann-the Rise (2014)’ dedicated to all the achiever from A & N Islands. The Director-Shipping Services Capt. Rajinder Singh, Director-Health Services Dr. Swapan Kr. Paul and Chief Editor-The Daily Telegrams Mr. Asheem Poddar also graced the occasion.
Later, a Mesmerising Cultural function was staged in association with Jhumurr Nrityangan, in which a Singer Ms. Sarmistha and ‘Rhythm-O-Mel’ Band from Kolkata presented sauperhit film numbers of legendry Music director R. D. Burman in observance of his Diamond Jubilee Birth Anniversary. Some popular Voices of the Isles Mohd. Nisar, Rasheed, Shamim, Anil, Abdul Nissar, Ashees entertained the large gathering alongwith Ms. Sarmistha and, Raj was quite impressive in Anchoring. Artistes of the Dance Academy-Jhumurr Nrityangan led by Smt. Kakali Podder also performed to the delight of the audience.
Earlier, the Forum’s Vice President Smt. Sumita Sanyal welcomed the assemblage while the programme concluded with Vote of thanks by Mr. S. Balasubramanian, President of Kasheesh. The Charity show titled “RD:X-factor ~ Pancham Sur” was Conceptualised and Directed by Ashees Poddar.
