Port Blair, Aug. 01: Community Food & Nutrition unit of Port Blair in coordination with Directorate of social Welfare has organized a symposium on disseminating correct norms on infant & young child feeding practices, and feeding during emergency IMS Act. The symposium was held at Shadipur community Hall today.
On this occasion Mr. M.M Murali Director Social Welfare was the chief Guest who lighted the lamp. He urged the participants to carry this message to the entire family and community support to help enhance breast feeding and complimentary feeding.
Speaking on this occasion, resource person Dr. Avijit Roy, Deputy Director (Health) spoke about the disadvantages of bottle feeding and about IMS Act and various other policies regarding maternal and child health.
Dr Amitab Dey, Dy. Director Malaria spoke about the importance of breast feeding and feeding during serious illness.
Dr Rahul Chander Lal spoke about diet regarding nursing mother and importance of complimentary feeding.
Earlier, Smti. Suma Sreedharan Demonstration officer of CFNEU Port Blair elaborated on the theme, “Breast feeding : A winning Goal for life. Sri P.C James programme officer spoke about the role of Anganwadi workers and importance of ICDS Services. He also proposed vote of thanks. The Programme was attended by 50 participants. On 4th August CFNEU Port Blair will be conducting Recipe competition , lecture cum demonstration in coordination with ICDS Urban project at school Line community hall, a release from Suma Sreedharan, Demonstration Officer, Community food & Nutrition Extension Unit said here today.
