Port Blair, July 10: Philanthropic activities by various segments of the society for noble causes are always welcome, said the Lt. Governor, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) A.K. Singh while addressing the 22nd Installation Ceremony of Inner Wheel Club of Port Blair at Hotel Fortune Resort, Bay Island, here last night. The Lt. Governor gave an inspirational speech worthy of emulation in a bid to motivate the gathering for their larger contribution to the society. He said, ‘If you want to lead a purposeful life, it has to be something beyond “I, ME, MINE” ; it has to be about caring and sharing, specially with those who are less fortunate.
Congratulating both the outgoing/incoming teams of IWC for their dedicated service, the Lt. Governor assured that the Administration will provide all possible help in various projects to be undertaken by the Club. The Lt. Governor asked the organization to ensure that the benefits of such commendable social activities reach the people in places other than Port Blair also.
Turning his attention to a visually challenged girl, Kumari Sumi Oommen, a student of Class XIIth of GSSS Girls who presented a melodious song, the Lt. Governor said, the business community should think of giving wings to the dream cherished by her.
Earlier, the outgoing President, IWC, Smt. Neeta Aggarwal recounted the activities undertaken by the Club during the year 2013-14. She said, since the theme of IIWC was “We for Women”, the focus was on women, children and senior citizen. Smt. Yasmeen Parvez, Club Secretary presented a power point presentation on the achievements of the Club. Miss Bala Karthika, a Class IXth student of KV-II presented a classical dance on the occasion.
The new President of IWC, Smt. Komal Anand presented a memento to the Lt. Governor on the occasion and also outlined her vision for the forthcoming year.
The ceremony concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Smt. Priya Krishna.
