Port Blair, July 8: Almost all formalities for introduction of a 68 seater, chartered flight between Port Blair- Car Nicobar have been completed. This will certainly bridge the gap between Nicobar District and Andaman District.
According to details available here the Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Civil Aviation called a meeting today to review the arrangements made by various stakeholders and discuss other modalities with the delegation of Alliance air in the presence of Sr. Officers of Indian Airforce, Dy. Commissioner, Nicobars, Secretary, GA, APWD & Police.
A MoU between the IAF and Alliance Air for technical assistance has also been signed by the authorized representatives of IAF and Alliance Air. The date of commencement of the chartered flight services to Car Nicobar will be announced very soon.
Meanwhile, all necessary arrangements for the chartered flight such as, passenger terminal building, Security hold area, check-in counters etc. have been created at Car Nicobar. An X-ray Baggage Inspection System (XBIS) has also been installed for screening of registered and hand baggages.
The A & N Police personnel have been trained and certified by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) for screening of passengers and baggages. To oversee various arrangements made by A & N Administration and other agencies for the chartered flight services, a team of officers from Alliance Air and Air India visited Car Nicobar on 7.7.2014.
