Port Blair, July 8: Showing zero tolerance towards corruption, the Lt Governor has directed the Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) to initiate action against the employees of the Council, indicted in the report of the Anti-Corruption Unit for committing serious irregularities in procurement of sanitary stores (Bleaching Powder). Based on an inquiry by the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Administration, it was revealed that an employee of PBMC has supplied sanitary stores to Municipal Council through a firm in which he has an interest.
In a similar case of malpractice by the some employees, the Lt Governor has issued directions to PBMC to initiate action against officers of Engineering Wing for making excess payment to a private firm towards hiring of charges of chain mounted excavator, trucks and other vehicles.
The Anti-Corruption Unit of the Administration after conducting a detailed inquiry into the matter has found irregularities and recommended disciplinary action against these officers.
