Port Blair, July 08: As per the direction of the Lt.Governor of A&N Islands to encourage efficient use of energy, the a number of appeals has been made to all the electricity consumers of Andaman and Nicobar islands which are All Govt. Departments should curtail their energy consumption by 10% in their offices and their comparative consumption shall be monitored quarterly basis and avoid wastage of electricity; The general public should also curtail their consumption by using energy efficient devices and avoid wastage of electricity; The public lighting systems should be converted either energy efficient LED Lights or solar lights and avoid wastage of electricity; Lighting in all government offices should be converted to either energy efficient LED Lights or solar lights and avoid wastage of electricity.
In this connection the A&N Administration vide Order No.4750 dated 5th December, 2006 has already issued a direction for the efficient use of energy in the UT of A&N Islands and made use of solar water heating system mandatory in certain buildings. Similarly the use of incandescent lamps in all Govts.buildings/Govt Aided Institution/Boards/Corporations has been banned and Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) only would be used to replace the defective incandescent lamps in existing buildings. Also the applicants, who require electric connections, must ensure the use of ISI marked wire, cables, switches, capacitors, motors, pump etc. as well as CFLs lamps.
“We also suggest avoiding usage of Air Conditioners, Geysers, Microwave Ovens, Washing Machines, Electricity Irons, Water pump etc., during peak hours as much as possible, which in turn would avoid overloading of power houses and power cuts. The commercial establishment must stop using halogen lights in their shops & hoardings and switch-off all such lights which are not basically required. It is our collective duty to save power by our own efforts so that we can ensure 24 hours electricity to everyone,” a release from Administration said here today.
